Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Monday 30.12.2019

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here. Decreasing avalanche hazard during the day.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 29. December 2019

Snødekket er endra etter mildvêret søndag. Det forventast at snøoverflata i låglandet stort sett er smelteomvandla, og at det finst store fokksnøansamlingar i leområder i høgfjellet.

Mountain weather

Sunday 29. December 2019

20 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to 3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 30. December 2019

10 mm precipitation, up to 16 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from northeast, changing to fresh breeze from the northeast during the evening. -5 °C to 2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Det har vore pålagring av fersk fokksnø i fleire himmleretningar. Ferskast fokksnø finn ein i dag i SV-vendte heng. Synkande temperaturar gjer at ein ikkje forventar naturleg utløyste våte skred i dag. Skredfaren avtar når vind og nedbør avtar utover ettermiddagen.
