Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Tuesday 10.03.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Precipitation and wind from south-east maintains the avalanche danger. Possible persistent weak layers in the snowpack adds to the complexity.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Snøoverflaten er variert etter snøfall tidligere i uka, solpåvirkning og store temperatursvingninger før helga og mildvær opp til om lag 1100 moh på søndag. Høyt til fjells finnes hard fokksnø, mens lenger ned vil en finne skare og våt snøoverflate, alt etter høydenivå og eksponering. I skjerma formasjoner kan det finnes en del løssnø.

Over ca. 900 moh er det mer snø enn normalt for årstiden.


Det ble i helga rapportert om kantkorn over skarelag i Sauda og i overflatesnøen i Kvinnherad. Fram til sist lørdag har det også vært forhold for dannelse av overflaterim som kan ha snødd ned ila. helga. Disse lagene kan nå være aktive.

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the south during renoon. -6 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Tuesday 10. March 2020

18 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from southeast. -8 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Vinden tar seg opp, særlig midt på dagen, og nedbøren øker på nytt. Nedbøren kommer som snø i fjellet og regn under tregrensa. I tillegg finnes det mye snø tilgjengelig for vindtransport som vil gi fokksnøflak i øst. Tegn på vedvarende svake lag høyt i snødekket gir en sammensatt situasjon.
Kraftig vind gjør at skredfaren er størst midt på dagen.
