Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Wednesday 29.05.2019

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Wind and fresh snow will give instable conditions in some slopes. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger. Avoid convex terrain.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 28. May 2019

Mountain weather

Tuesday 28. May 2019

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from northwest. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Wednesday 29. May 2019

12 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
