Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Monday 12.04.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Wind and fresh snow may give instable conditions in some slopes. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. As the sun comes out, the risk for natural released avalanches in sunexposed terrain increases,

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

New snow (loose snow avalanches)

on many steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 11. April 2021

Mountain weather

Sunday 11. April 2021

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during the evening. -6 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 12. April 2021

2-6 mm precipitation. Breeze from west. -9 °C to -2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
