Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The extent of the avalanche problem til increase with the shift in wind direction and new snowfall. Avoid lee areas with unstable wind slabs and runout zones.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 22. February 2020

Mountain weather

Saturday 22. February 2020

25 mm precipitation, up to 50 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest. -8 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 23. February 2020

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from west. -10 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
