Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Friday 24.05.2024

It’s mainly stable snow, but it is possible to trigger small avlanches in steep terrain where the sun makes the snow wet. Keep a safe distance to cornices and glide cracks.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Overflata er våt etter noen dager med varmt vær. Stedvis ligger det rester etter nysnøen som kom tidlig i uka. Snødekket er i all hovedsak smelteomdannet og vått, men det finnes fortsatt is og skarelag i høyden.
Tirsdag gikk snøgrensen ned til 450 - 500 moh i nordvendt terreng, men stiger raskt i varmen. Glidesprekker er utbredt.

1-3 mm precipitation. Precipitation as rain. Breeze from southwest. 1 °C to 11 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 24. May 2024

No precipitation. Breeze from northwest. -2 °C to 5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Temperaturen synker og gir stabilisering av snødekket tidlig på dagen. Der sola kommer fram vil overflata bli våt i bratte heng. Her vil det fortsatt være lett å løse ut små våte løssnøskred.

Det gamle snødekket vurderes som stabilt, men der snøen glir på glatt underlag kan det fortsatt løsne glideskred i kjente skredløp. Unngå ferdsel under glidesprekker og skavler.
