Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Friday 17.05.2024

Be careful on steep slopes with soft and wet snow, skier triggering is possible.
Keep your distance to cornices and areas with glide-cracks.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Snødekket er tidligere gjennomfuktet høyt til fjells, men det finnes fortsatt lagdelt snø på de høyeste toppene og indre deler av regionen. Det er fortsatt harde skarelag i snødekket fra tidligere i vinter, særlig i skyggevendte heng. Snøgrensen kryper oppover og snødekket under 800-1000 moh anses som homogent og generelt stabilt.

Høyt til fjells kan kantkornlag dypt i snødekket være tilstede i nord- og østvendt terreng.

På Fagernesfjellet på ca. 1000 moh ble det mandag observert opphopning av vann over skarelag i snødekket.

Avalanche risk assessment

Det kan fremdeles være mulig for skikjørere å løse ut løssnøskred i bratt terreng. I hovedsak vil skredene bli små, men husk at skredstørrelsen øker med bratthet og størrelse på terreng.

Unngå områder med synlige glidesprekker. Vær også oppmerksom på at skavler er svært ustabile nå.
