Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Saturday 11.05.2024

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions. Be careful in areas with new wind slabs and in steep slopes with wet snow. Avoid areas with glide cracks.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Glide avalanches

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 10. May 2024

Mountain weather

Friday 10. May 2024

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to calm/light breeze from the southwest during the evening. -6 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Saturday 11. May 2024

3-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from south. -5 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
