Avalanche warning for region Nordenskiöld Land Wednesday 15.05.2024

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions. There are persistent weak layers deep down in the snowpack but they are in general hard to trigger.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow above a crust

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 14. May 2024

Mountain weather

Tuesday 14. May 2024

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -5 °C to -1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Wednesday 15. May 2024

2-3 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from northeast, changing to breeze from the north during the afternoon. -5 °C to -1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Stort sett stabile forhold.

Det finnes kantkornlag rundt skarelag og ved bakken. Sannsynligheten for å påvirke disse svake lagene vurderes som lav og utbredelsen er trolig liten, men om man klarer å påvirke det, kan det løsne store skred.
