Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Wednesday 09.01.2019

Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Søndag var det mildt i regionen med regn opp til 800-1000 moh. Mandag ble det kaldere igjen, og de siste dagene har det kommet en god del snø sammen med kuling fra SV-V. Det har kommet mest nedbør i ytre størk av regionen, særlig i området rundt Skjervøy. I høyfjellet er snødekket ujevnt fordelt og det finnes trolig større ansamlinger av fokksnøflak i leområder.

Observatør meldte i slutten av forrige uke at det hadde begynt å danne seg kantkorn i terrengformasjoner med tynt snødekke.

Frem til tirsdag morgen hadde det kommet 30 cm nysnø ved Skjervøy siste 24 timer.

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the north during the afternoon. -9 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Wednesday 9. January 2019

2-5 mm precipitation. Breeze from northeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -11 °C to -6 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Forbigående avtagende vind og nedbør fører til at fokksnøflakene får tid til å stabilisere seg. Men vær fortsatt oppmerksom på at det kan være lett å løse ut middels store skred i leformasjoner som har samlet fokksnø.
