Avalanche warning for region Indre Troms Sunday 19.05.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Rain below 500 masl. and snow above can cause slab avalanches in higher elevations and glide avalanches in lower elevations. Keep also distance to cornices and cliffs. Be careful with weak snow bridges over creeks and rotten snow close to rocks.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Glide avalanches

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 18. May 2024

Mountain weather

Saturday 18. May 2024

4-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from southwest. 0 °C to 7 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 19. May 2024

12 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -6 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
