Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Sunday 28.05.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with fresh wind-deposited snow at higher elevations. A few small wet loose snow avalanches can occur under the zero degree line.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 27. May 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 27. May 2023

15 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the south. -5 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 28. May 2023

20 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l. Moderate gale from south, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the afternoon. -2 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
