Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. A persistent weak layer can be present underneath fresh wind deposited snow in isolated features.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4). Remote triggering is possible.

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Mildværet i helgen har fuktet snøen til rundt 400-600 moh. Etter dette har det kommet rundt 15 cm nysnø som har lagt seg over den fuktige snøen. Kraftig vind fra vest, særlig i ytre strøk, har påvirket snødekket. I fjellet er det sannsynligvis fokksnøflak av ulik hardhet etter mye vind søndag og mandag.

Det finnes kantkornlag dypere i snødekket. Mildværet i helgen har stabilisert dette de fleste steder i lavlandet. Høyere til fjells er de sannsynligvis fortsatt er tilstede, men er vanskelig å påvirke når de ligger dypt i snødekket.

Søndag ble det observert et stort skred over vei litt nord for Nuvsvåg. Lørdag ble det observert flere svært store skred i Koppartindgryta ved Alteidet.
