Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Sunday 21.05.2023

Wet natural avalanches possible in highet altitudes. The avalanche increase with sun and warmer temperatures in the mountain. Be careful in avalanche release and run out areas.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Snøgrensa ligger på ca. 300 moh med lite snø under ca. 500 moh. Høyt til fjells kom det noe nysnø 17. mai. Det gamle snødekket er for det meste smelteomdannet.

Natt til lørdag var det plussgrader om natten høyt til fjells. Da var det 1 grader ved Kistefjell (982 moh).

6 mm precipitation, up to 14 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Moderate gale from southwest. 2 °C to 6 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 21. May 2023

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. 3 °C to 11 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Stigende temperaturer og regn vil føre til snøsmelting og vått snødekke. Enkelte våte løssnøskred kan løsne naturlig i svært bratt terreng. De høydenivåene hvor det kom tørr snø tidligere i uka, er mest utsatt.

Det har nå vært et par netter uten nattefrost, også i høyden. I fjellet kan det derfor løsne et og annet vått flakskred pga. vann som samler seg opp ved bakken eller over gamle skarelag.

Sannsynligheten for sørpeskred, glideskred og skavelbrudd øker noe når det er varmt, men det er vanskelig å forutsi når dette skjer. Unngå langvarig opphold under sigesprekker og i bekkeløp, og hold god avstand til skavler.
