Svært kraftig vind og mildvær de siste dagene har gjort sitt med snødekke. Snøen har trolig vært fuktet til fjelltopphøyde i store deler av regionen. Mot de høyeste toppene kan det finnes noe tørr snø som sannsynligvis er vindpakket og hard. Utsatte partier er avblåst.

Forrige uke kom det observasjoner på svake kantkornlag ved bakken både fra grensetraktene mot Indre Troms og fra Senja.

10 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l Monday night. Moderate gale from south, changing to gale from the southwest during the afternoon. -5 °C to 2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 24. January 2023

4-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the south during the afternoon. -5 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Det har vært kraftig vind de siste dagene, men milde temperaturene har trolig bidratt til en rask stabilisering av fokksnøen. Utover ettermiddagen vil det potensielt dannes ferske flak med ustabil fokksnø oppå glatt skare høyt til fjells. Naturlig utløste skred ventes der pålagring er størst.

Det er stor grad av usikkert hvordan vedvarende svake lag høyt i snødekket har tålt belastningen fra de siste dagene med nedbør og sterk vind.
