Avalanche warning for region Salten Tuesday 16.05.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions with a snowpack which has had time to adjust to the high water content. However rain and warm temperatures mean that wet avalanches are still possible. Avoid areas prone to glide avalanches and remember to keep a safe distance to cornices which have been weakened by the warm temperatures.
  • The danger is greatest from Tuesday afternoon

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Glide avalanches

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
