Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Friday 26.05.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Locally unstable conditions. A skier may trigger avalanches in the fresh wind slabs. Be careful where the new snow becomes wet and soft.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 25. May 2023

Mountain weather

Thursday 25. May 2023

20 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the west during the evening. -4 °C to 1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 26. May 2023

2-5 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -6 °C to 1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
