Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Friday 10.04.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Strong winds and snow showers will cause increased snow transport. Be careful where the fresh snow accumulates and be aware that big cornices are unstable. At low altitudes, the snow is still wet.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 9. April 2020

Ellers ikkje relevante svake lag.

Mountain weather

Thursday 9. April 2020

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the west during the evening. -9 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 10. April 2020

4-6 mm precipitation. Breeze from west. -9 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
