Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Wednesday 08.02.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Dry wind slabs may be naturally triggered high in the alpine in the eastern part of the region. Heavy rainfall may cause naturally triggered wet avalanches at lower altitudes. Eastern parts of the region are most exposed. There is little snow in the western part of the region (west of Svolvær).

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.
