Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. A persistent weak layer of facets may be triggered, especially where the snow cover is thin.

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Snow cover (in Norwegian), 04.02.2023

Snøoverflaten preges av mye nysnø som har kommet i løpet av uka i kombinasjon med vind fra sør og sørøst. Det ligger fersk vindtransportert snø i heng vendt mot nord og nordvest. Under skoggrensa er det mye løs snø.

Mildværet forrige uke ødela kantkornlaget fra ca. 1200 moh og ned. Høyere til fjells vil dette laget kunne være tilstede, men her vil harde og bærende lag over for det meste hindre at laget påvirkes.

Fredag kveld ble det observert noen små, ferske skred i fokksnøen i Sogndal.

Fredag ble det meldt om mye tørr løssnø i Årdal og svært mye tørr løssnø i Sogndal.

4-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the south during the afternoon. -10 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -9 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.
