Avalanche warning for region Indre Sogn Saturday 04.02.2023

Locally unstable avalanche conditions in the alpine. Be careful of recently loaded storm slabs. A persistent weak layer of facets may be triggered, especially where the snow cover is thin.

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian), 03.02.2023

Snøoverflaten preges av mye nysnø som har kommet i kombinasjon med vind fra sørøst natt til fredag. Det ligger fersk vindtransportert snø i heng vendt mot nordvest. Under skoggrensa er det mye løs snø.

Mildværet forrige uke ødela kantkornlaget fra ca. 1200 moh og ned. Høyere til fjells vil dette laget kunne være tilstede, men her vil harde og bærende lag over for det meste hindre at laget påvirkes.

Onsdag og torsdag ble det observert noen naturlig utløste løssnøskred på 1000-1100 moh i Luster og Sogndal.

Det siste døgnet har det kommet 10-25 cm nysnø i regionen. Onsdag ble det meldt om rim på myk (ny)snø i Luster.

10 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the evening. Moderate gale from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the west during renoon. -11 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

4-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the south during the afternoon. -10 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.
