Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Friday 20.01.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Locally unstable conditions. A skier or a snow mobile may trigger avalanches in the fresh wind slabs. Be aware that persistent weak layers can be hidden in the snow pack.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 19. January 2023

Mountain weather

Thursday 19. January 2023

4-8 mm precipitation. Rain up to 100 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -11 °C to -6 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 20. January 2023

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 100 m a.s.l Friday night. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the west during renoon. -8 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
