Avalanche warning for region Finnmarkskysten Monday 23.01.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Locally unstable conditions. Be careful in areas with fresh wind deposited snow. Be aware that there can be pockets with persistent weak layer beneath wind deposited snow, but these are most prominent inland.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 22. January 2023

Mountain weather

Sunday 22. January 2023

4-6 mm precipitation. Precipitation as rain. Moderate gale from south. -8 °C to -1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 23. January 2023

6-7 mm precipitation. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l Monday night. Gale from south, changing to strong gale from the southwest during the afternoon. -11 °C to -4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
