Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Saturday 28.05.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Large amounts of rain will weaken the snowpack considerably. Keep good distance to avalanche terrain and run out zones for wet avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 27. May 2022

Etter flere dager med mildvær til fjelltopphøyde og fravær av nattefrost består snøoverflaten stort sett av våt eller fuktig smelteomvandlet snø. Det er fortsatt mye snø i regionen for årstiden.

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Calm/light breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during renoon. -7 °C to 2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Saturday 28. May 2022

20 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1400 m a.s.l Saturday night. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the evening. -3 °C to 1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
