Avalanche warning for region Heiane Thursday 27.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Heavy rain/snow and wind give unstable snowpack and increasing avalanche danger above 1000 masl. Danger of naturally triggered avalanches early in the day.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 26. January 2022

Mountain weather

Wednesday 26. January 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l Wednesday night. Moderate gale from west. -4 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Thursday 27. January 2022

30 mm precipitation, up to 50 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l Thursday night. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to gale from the northwest during renoon. -5 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Varierende vind og temperatur gir ulike problemer gjennom dagen. Første del av døgnet vil regn i snø gi fare for våte skred under ca. 1200 moh. Over dette vil stor pålagring opprettholde faren for tørre skred. Skred kan også løsne naturlig på utsatte plasser.
Siste del av dagen vil synkende snøgrense og snøbyger gi ustabile flakdannelser i nye hengretninger helt ned mot tregrensen.
