Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Monday 16.05.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

High temperature and sun elevates the danger of wet avalanches. Be careful with recently formed wind slabs at high elevations. Keep distance to cornices and areas with glide-cracks.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Snødekket er preget av mye regn siste uka og er smelteomdannet og homogent. Over ca 1000 moh har nedbøren periodevis kommet som snø. Rundt de høyeste toppene har det kommet mye nysnø. I nordhellinger høyt til fjells kan det fortsatt finnes lagdelt vintersnø.

Det er fortsatt mye snø i høyfjellet. Snøgrensa ligger mange steder rundt tregrensa, høyere i bratt sørvendt.

På Røldalsfjellet (1000 moh) har det kommet ca 80 mm nedbør siste 5 dager både som regn og snø.

3 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1500 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from northwest. -3 °C to 3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Monday 16. May 2022

No precipitation. Calm/light breeze from northeast. -4 °C to 6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Avalanche risk assessment

Solvendte heng ventes å få våt overflate utover dagen til fjelltopphøyde. Middels store skred kan løsne i alle himmelretninger med våt snø. Mest utsatt er sørvendte heng som har fått nysnø den siste uka, her kan noen få skred også bli store (str. 3).

Fokksnøflakene i høyfjellet stabiliseres ytterligere og ventes å kunne påvirkes bare rundt de høyeste toppene.
Hold god avstand til alle skavler, de er større enn vanlig og kan lett knekke.

Glideskred er uforutsigbare og kan løsne av seg selv hele døgnet. Unngå opphold under glidesprekker.
