Avalanche warning for region Voss Wednesday 19.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Naturally released large avalanches is expected due to unstable storm slabs in the alpine. Naturally released wet avalanches possible during nighttime and early morning. Wet avalanche activity will diminish as the temperature drop through the day.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Der det ligger sammenhengende snø består snøoverflaten hovedsakelig av vindpåvirket snø av varierende hardhet. Det gamle og stedvis beskjedne snødekket antas stabilt etter mildvær og gjenfrysing, unntatt i de høyestliggende områdene. Det er generelt lite snø under ca 1000 moh i ytre strøk. I indre strøk er det mer snø, men lokale variasjoner.

Et lite skiløper utløst skred i Myrkdalen mandag.

Observatør melder om 3 cm nysnø i Jordalen tirsdag, og et tynt skarelag under nysnøen etter underkjølt regn.

35 mm precipitation, up to 45 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l Wednesday night. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during the afternoon. -11 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Over mildværsgrensen vil mye nysnø og kraftig vind av skiftende retning gi ferske fokksnøflak i leheng. Skred kan løsne naturlig, og i noen heng kan de bli store (str 3). Synkende nysnøgrense utover dagen.

Natt til onsdag vil regn og mildvær gi fare for naturlig utløste våte skred under mildværsgrensen. Faren for våte skred avtar i takt med synkende temperatur fra onsdag morgen.
