Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Monday 03.01.2022

Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Naturally released loose avalanches can occur in the lower areas

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Søndag er det mildt i regionen og snøen vert fukta opp til 1100 moh. Våt snø under 700 moh.

Søndag vert det observert vått laussnøskred ved Ørsta.

I Liabygda (300 moh) kom det 10 cm nysnø natt til fredag.

16 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from southwest. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 3. January 2022

10 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -9 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Så lenge det kjem snø og er vind i fjellet kan framleis skred løysne naturleg. Skredfaren avtek når veret roar seg i løpet av dagen. Tidlegare denne veka har det vore sterk vind frå fleire retningar og det ligg fokksnø i fjellet som det også er mogeleg å løyse ut skred i. I låglandet er det forventa at dei fleste våte skred som skulle løysne gjekk søndag og det er begrensa med snø igjen som kan lage skred i bratt terreng. Men der det ligg snø som får regn på seg kan det framleis løysne skred.
