Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Monday 24.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Colder temps and newly formed wind slabs rise the avalanche danger. Use great caution on recently loaded slopes in the alpine.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 23. January 2022

Mountain weather

Sunday 23. January 2022

4-7 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1400 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from west, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the evening. -3 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 24. January 2022

12 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the west during the evening. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Skredfaren øker igjen nå som det kommer nysnø og vind i høyden. Det vil raskt bygge seg opp ustabile fokksnøflak i områdene som får mest nedbør.

Synkende nysnøgrense ventes utover dagen.
