Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Naturally released wet avalanches may occur. Use caution in steep terrain with fresh wind slabs in the alpine.

Avalanche problems

Water pooling in/above snow layers

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 17. January 2022

Mountain weather

Monday 17. January 2022

2-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during the evening. Gale from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during renoon. -10 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 18. January 2022

3-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
