Avalanche warning for region Voss Sunday 28.03.2021

Be careful in and close to terrain traps and on steep slopes with storm slabs. Be aware that persistent weak layers can be hidden in the snow pack.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Mange stader ligg det ferskfokksnø oppå snø som er smelteomdanna. Toppar og ryggar er avblåst eller er dekka av skare.

Det er lite snø for årstida i regionen. Snøgrense er på rundt 500 moh.

Kantkorn danna i kuldeperioda i januar/februar kan framleis vere eit problem høgt til fjells.

På Vikafjellet er det til dels store skavler mot nord og aust.

Avalanche risk assessment

Påfyll av snø og sterk vind frå sør som dreier på vest utover dagen vil danne fokksnøflak i nord- og austvendte leformasjonar. I fjellet vil fokksnøflak vere lette å påvirke for ein skiløpar. Under nysnøgrensa er våte laussnøskred hovedproblemet, men snødekket er allereie smelteomdanna og drenerer godt.

Ver oppmerksam på at skavlar vert svekka av pålagring i form av regn eller snø.

Høgt til fjells finns det svake lag av kantkorn djut i snødekket i enkelte heng. Laget er vanskeleg å påvirke, men kan gi store skred hvis det først løsnar.
