Avalanche warning for region Voss Saturday 27.03.2021

Be careful in and close to terrain traps and on steep slopes until the new snow has stabilized. Be aware that persistent weak layers can be hidden in the snow pack.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snøoverflata er prega av vekslende vær og plussgrader over 1000 moh den siste uka. Over ca 700 moh ligger nysnø fra torsdag. Snøoverflata er stedvis vindpåvirka, og fokksnø har blåst inn i leområder. Topper og rygger er avblåst eller består av skare. Det er lite snø for årstida i regionen. Snøgrense rundt 500 moh.

I høyden kan kantkorn fra kuldeperioden i januar/februar fortsatt være intakt.

18 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from south. -2 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

8-10 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from south, changing to fresh breeze from the west during the afternoon. -5 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Kaldere vær utover dagen gjør at skredfaren avatar. Våte skred blir mindre aktuelt. Over fredagens mildværsgrense kan det finnes ustabile nysøflak i de høyeste fjellområdene.

Høgt til fjells finnes det svake lag av kantkorn dypt i snødekket i enkelte heng. Laget er vanskelig å påvirke, men kan gi store skred hvis det først løsner.
