Avalanche warning for region Voss Saturday 11.01.2020

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Rising temperatures and rain will give risk of natural wet slab avalanches. Avoid areas with fresh windslabs in the higher areas.

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Det er varierande snødekke. Kraftig vind og snø har har lagt opp store fonner med fokksnø i leområder. Ryggar og ope terreng er blåst ned til gammalt snødekke. Gammalt snødekke er smelteformar av ulik hardheit. Snøen ligg ujamnt fordelt i austvendt terreng.

60 mm precipitation, up to 80 mm in the most exposed areas. Gale from southwest. -4 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Store mengder nedbør, truleg som snø i høgda første del av dagen, og hard vind vil legge opp svært mykje fersk fokksnø i leområder. Varmen og regnet vil deretter svekke bindingar i snødekket og kan gi tildels store og svært store naturleg utløyste skred.
