Avalanche warning for region Vest-Telemark Thursday 02.12.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with fresh wind deposited snow. Keep in mind that even small avalanches can have consequences if you fall into rocky terrain.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 1. December 2021

Natt til tysdag kom det opp til 35 cm nysnø i regionen. Mange stader ligg denne laussnøen rett på bakken og det er kun i leområder i høgfjellet ein finn fast underliggande snø. Det er generelt lite snø i regionen.

Mountain weather

Wednesday 1. December 2021

No precipitation. Breeze from north. -14 °C to -7 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 2. December 2021

Little to no precipitation. Strong breeze from northwest. -13 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Vind vil flytte laussnøen som kom tidlegare i veka og vil danne ferske fokksnøflak over tregrensa. Underliggande eldre flak vert rekna som stabile.
