Avalanche warning for region Vest-Finnmark Thursday 14.05.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 13. May 2020

Mountain weather

Wednesday 13. May 2020

Little to no precipitation. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the south during the afternoon. -10 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Thursday 14. May 2020

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during the afternoon. -8 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
