Avalanche warning for region Vest-Finnmark Tuesday 25.02.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger there.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 24. February 2020

Mountain weather

Monday 24. February 2020

15 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -13 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Tuesday 25. February 2020

6 mm precipitation, up to 14 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from west. -14 °C to -9 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
