Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Sunday 21.03.2021

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Conditions are challenging. Be sure you have enough knowledge and experience before travelling in steep terrain. Be extra careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow. There are persistent weak layers at higher elevations.

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Sola har tidligere i uken varmet opp overflata i bratte solvendte heng, og det er solskare av varierende tykkelse under den ferske snøen.

Det nærmer seg normalmengde med snø for årstida.

Over 1200 moh. kan svake lag djupt i snødekket framleis vere eit problem i nokre heng.

Nokre naturleg utløyste laussnøskred vart observert i Øksendalen fredag. Forrige lørdag gikk det et stort skred under Nonsfjellet i Oppdal på kantkorn.

Det er mange stader store skavlar, spesielt mot aust. Drønn med god forplantning vart observert på Okla i Oppdal fredag.

15 mm precipitation, up to 22 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from west, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during renoon. -3 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 21. March 2021

8 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the west during the evening. -11 °C to -6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Snøfall og sterk vind frå nordvest fortset å flytte snø inn i aust og sør-austvendte leformasjonar. Områda rundt Sunndalen ser ut til å få mest snø. Ein skikøyrar kan lett løyse ut skred i bratte heng.

Høgt til fjells kan svake lag av kantkorn djupt i snødekket framleis påvirkast i enkelte heng.
