Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Tuesday 16.03.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Fresh wind slabs are easy to trigger in leeward terrain that is accumulating snow. Avalanches will be easiest to trigger where the slabs are still being loaded by wind and snowfall or are very fresh.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 15. March 2021

Mountain weather

Monday 15. March 2021

8 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -10 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 16. March 2021

2-6 mm precipitation. Breeze from northwest. -12 °C to -7 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
