Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Monday 20.01.2020

Heavy snow showers increase the risk of naturally releases avalanche above treeline. Below treeline some wet avalanches are possible.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Torsdag og fredag er det kommet påfyll av nysnø, mengdene varierer noe lokalt.

Fredag og lørdag har det vært en sniktrekk på utsatte steder som har dannet fokksnøflak.

På mer utsatte steder er det avblåst ned til bakken eller til gammel skare. Mildvær har ført til at det gamle snødekket er gjennomfuktet og generelt stabilt opp til ca 800 moh.

Monday 20. January 2020

20 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the west during the evening. -4 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

En ny runde med lavtrykk vil gi høye temperaturer, kraftig nedbør og mye vind. Skredfaren vil følgelig øke og det er fare for naturlig utløste skred. Mot kvelden er det overgang til vind fra V og mer bygevær.
