Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Monday 22.04.2019

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
A very complex situation is at hand. Unstable wind slabs will be present in the Alpine. Rain will weaken the snowpack also at higher elevations in the afternoon. The old persistent weak layer may still be triggered after being weakened by the last days rain events.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow above a crust

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 21. April 2019

Laget er trolig mest utbredt over 1000 moh.

Mountain weather

Sunday 21. April 2019

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest. -1 °C to 3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 22. April 2019

15 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from southwest. -1 °C to 5 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
