Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Monday 22.03.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with fresh wind deposited snow. A slab avalanche can easily be triggered. Wet avalanches can occur where the snow is wet.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 21. March 2021

Søndag kom det nysnø ned til fjorden. Over skogen er snøoverflata prega av vind. Mildvér laurdag fukta snøoverflata opp til 1000 moh. Det ligg skare av varierande tjukkleik under den ferske snøen frå den siste veka. Det er framleis relativt lite snø for årstida i regionen.

Vedvarande svake lag frå kuldeperioda i januar/februar kan framleis vere eit problem nokre stadar over 1300 moh.

Mountain weather

Sunday 21. March 2021

6 mm precipitation, up to 14 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the west during renoon. -10 °C to -5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 22. March 2021

4-7 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from southwest. -5 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
