Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Tuesday 17.12.2019

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with fresh wind deposited snow. There may be pockets with a persistent weak layer beneath the wind deposited snow.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 16. December 2019

Mountain weather

Monday 16. December 2019

5-8 mm precipitation. Breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -12 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Tuesday 17. December 2019

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from southeast. -12 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
