Avalanche warning for region Salten Saturday 02.01.2021

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally safe travel conditions. Below treeline there is no snow. The old snowpack in the alpine is mainly strong crust layer, but smaller wind slabs can be encountered on isolated features. Use caution in exposed terrain due to hard snow surface.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 1. January 2021

Det er tynt snødekke til fjells og mer eller mindre bart i lavlandet.

Snøen ujevnt fordelt i terrenget.

Mountain weather

Friday 1. January 2021

Little to no precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast. -13 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Saturday 2. January 2021

1-3 mm precipitation. Calm/light breeze from southeast. -10 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Generelt stabile forhold.

Det gamle snødekket er i ferd med å miste sin styrke.

Det lille som kommer av nysnø ventes ikke å være nok til å endre skredfaren.

Snøoverflaten kan fortsatt være hard og isete mange steder, så far varsomt.
