Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Saturday 20.03.2021

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Naturally released loose wet avalanches can occur in exposed steep terrain.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 19. March 2021

Vedvarande svake lag frå kuldeperioda i januar/februar kan framleis vere eit problem nokre stadar over ca 1200 moh.

Mountain weather

Friday 19. March 2021

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from northeast, changing to strong breeze from the west during the evening. -6 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Saturday 20. March 2021

12 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during the evening. -4 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
