Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Thursday 14.03.2019

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
There is a persistent weak layer buried in the snow cover that may be triggered by a skier. Remote triggering possible on hotspots or on convex terrain where the snow cover is thin. Wind slabs in the alpine may also form avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 13. March 2019

Mountain weather

Wednesday 13. March 2019

Little to no precipitation. Moderate gale from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during renoon. -12 °C to -6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 14. March 2019

Little to no precipitation. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during renoon. -12 °C to -6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
