Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Saturday 16.01.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid avalanche terrain with newly deposited wind slabs. The wind slabs are overlying a persistent weak layer, and avalanches can therefor be easier to trigger and get bigger than if persistent weak layers were absent.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 16. January 2021

Mountain weather

Friday 15. January 2021

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from northwest. -8 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 16. January 2021

3-6 mm precipitation. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the northwest during the evening. -7 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
