Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Wednesday 11.12.2019

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Be cautious in steep terrain with wind slabs that could be triggered. Generally expect a hard and stable snow pack.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 11. December 2019

Kantkorn over og under skare nede i snødekket er inntakt over ca 600moh

Observert kantkorn i overflaten i Kåfjord lørdag. Opp mot 15 cm nysnø nord i Kåfjord tirsdag

Mountain weather

Tuesday 10. December 2019

5 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -17 °C to -9 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Wednesday 11. December 2019

4-6 mm precipitation. Gale from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the south during the afternoon. -17 °C to -8 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
