Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Tuesday 05.03.2019

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The danger increases when the wind picks up together with a new snow fall. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 4. March 2019

Mountain weather

Monday 4. March 2019

7 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from north, changing to fresh breeze from the north during renoon. -20 °C to -11 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Tuesday 5. March 2019

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from west. -20 °C to -14 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
