Avalanche warning for region Lyngen Monday 03.02.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Wind and fresh snow may give instable conditions in many slopes. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here. Avoid especially convex terrain.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 3. February 2020

Mountain weather

Sunday 2. February 2020

10-12 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during the evening. -13 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Monday 3. February 2020

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from northwest. -14 °C to -7 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
