Avalanche warning for region Heiane Wednesday 14.04.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

When the sun comes out, the danger will rise in areas where the snow becomes wet and soft. Be aware in steep lee areas in higher elevations, small dry wind slabs are possible to release. Be careful close to and in terrain traps.

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Tidligere vindtransportert snø dekker mye av terrenget, med mest snø i øst- og sørvendte leområder. Snøoverflaten varierer mellom avblåst skare/fjell og vindpakket myk snø. Enkelte steder finnes vindpakket hard fokksnø. Det er relativt store variasjoner på snømengde innad i regionen. Det ligger snø på bakken fra ca. 200 moh, men det er generelt lite snø for årstiden i regionen.

Avalanche risk assessment

I fjellsider som får direkte solinnstråling vil stabiliteten i snødekket svekkes og naturlige utløste skred kan gå. Vær også oppmerksom på skavlbrekk.

Den tidligere vindtransporterte snøen ventes nå å ha stabilisert seg, men solinnstråling kan gjøre det lettere å løse ut skred på sjiktoverganger i fokksnøen utover dagen. Vær spesielt oppmerksom i overganger mellom tynt og tykt snødekke.
